The 1 st Annual New York Salsa Dance Championship

That’s right folks, for the first time in history we at the New York Salsa Congress will be conducting our own dance contest with a grand total of $5000 in prize money. Competition breeds Excellency.  Now it’s time to take your salsa dancing and creativity to the next level.


This competition is open to Professional couples (male lead and female follow) of all ages whether you dance On1, On2, etc. 

OPEN DIVISION: A minimum of fifty percent (50%) Salsa is required with the remaining time used for side-by-side routines, lifts, drops, aerials and adagios


 

1. Competitors and attendees must have a day or weekend pass and are required to fill out a registration form and sign liability waiver compliance. Registration is $60 per couple before July 2, $100 per couple after.  If both dancers of the partnership have a full pass, then the registration fee is waived.

2. All competitors will receive a number to be which they will be responsible to keep through the duration of this particular competition.  

3. All competitors consent to release the use of their photographs, biographies, and names, for any video or television footage for sale.  4. All solo competitors will supply their own music on CD.

 5.
The minimum/maximum time allowed for all solo competitors includes entrance and exit, with or without music. Solo routines should be no less than 2½ minutes and no more than 3 ½ minutes.


 6. Couples must be present 30 minutes before the beginning of the competition in the ballroom and have their competition numbers with them. Any couple that is not present when the competition begins will be automatically disqualified.

 

7. If there are fewer than five couples, the NYSC and the NYHC reserves the right to cancel or combine divisions.

8. The head judge and NYHC committee will have final say on all discrepancies. All questions and/or disputes should be brought to the attention of the head judge in writing (NYHC will supply a form for this purpose, if needed).

 
9. Competition will start promptly at 7:15 PM Sunday, September, 2, 2007


Absolutely no private filming, video cameras, photography and/or sales of videos/tapes will be allowed at any time without written permission of the NYSC and NYHC organizers.
