Salsa is the new hip hop is a campaign
started by the 2007 NYSC committee and is associated
with our
special youth dayset for Saturday, September 1, 2007 between the hours of 12pm
to 5pm. The day begins with a 4 hour youth musicality seminar given in the Americas
Hall room FREE to all kids & young adults all over the world between the
ages of 6 – 20 but is limited to the first 200 kids due to the room capacity.
It will be capped off with our New York’s Got Salsa Youth Dance Showcase
in the afternoon from 6pm to 7pm. Team NYSC is taking this initiative to help
bring Salsa music back into the spotlight and highlight the importance of Latin
music, dance, and culture. Our goal is to reaffirm to our youth that Salsa music
is cool, Salsa is in now; salsa is the new hip hop. |

Our mission with the Youth Musicality Seminar which
is split in 2 segments is designed to expose and foster
an appreciation and understanding of Latin music, instrumentation,
rhythm and dance. To motivate CHILDREN, TEENS and YOUNG
ADULTS, of all levels, to use their imaginations as a
tool for expression, and to identify themselves, mind,
body, and spirit as mindful people, dancers and young
professionals. No expectations and no right or wrong
way.
The 1 st segment of the program is about
the basics of Salsa Dance which will be taught by Mad
Hot Ballroom’s
and instructor at Dance Manhattan, Rodney Lopez. The
2 nd segment of the seminar is about the basics in understanding
Latin music, instrumentation, and rhythm which will be
taught by Ocho Y Mas Band Leader and Conguero Bobby Allende & friends.

Our New York’s Got Salsa youth
dance showcase is the second session of this day which
will take place in the Grand Ballroom from 6 pm to 7pm.
Here we will have youth groups from different parts of
the city, neighboring states and countries showcasing
their choreography either put together by themselves
or their instructor. You are not obligated to stay but
welcome to see our youth groups that already have taken
lessons showcase their talent. Performing on stage in
front of an audience is not an easy thing but can be
done if taught properly. Admission for the New York’s
Got Salsa Youth Dance Showcase is $10 and will be sold
in the registration area of the New York Salsa Congress
starting at 5:00pm.
The Youth Musicality Seminar’s dance
segment is sponsored by Dance Manhattan. The Rhythm segment
is sponsored by Pearl Drums. Feel free to write
to us at nycsalsacongress@aol.com for
any questions.
