The New York Salsa Congress – Dance & Music
Festival promotes the health and well-being of all dancers. Dancing
helps people of all ages maintain a satisfying life-style,
through an enjoyable physical activity that relaxes muscles,
reduces blood pressure, and has the potential to reduce the
risk of heart failure. In fact, an Italian study done
in 2006 found that dancing improves ability to function
and quality of life among chronic heart failure patients
and may be a good alternative to other aerobic exercises. That’s why the New York Salsa Congress is teaming
up with the American Heart Association and the Go Red For
Women movement to dedicate Friday night’s activities
to our Salseras!
Join us Friday night and dance the night
away, “IN RED”. Ladies wear your sexiest
red outfit or accessory - a red blouse, a red dress, a red
skirt, red dance shoes, a red dress pin, a fabulous red handbag,
put on red lipstick. Gentlemen - wear your red tie
and/or red socks, have a red handkerchief, etc. or pick
up a Go Red For Women Red Dress Pin at the AHA booth when
you arrive. Friday night includes our Artist Showcase
comprised of the hottest local and international dance groups
and couples, plus our Live Concert Series featuring the “Battle of the Bands” between
La Excelencia and Ocho Y Mas.
By wearing red and making a donation at
the American Heart Association, you will help support life-saving
research and education about women and heart disease. Become
part of the fight against heart disease, the No. 1 killer
of women (and men) in America, a condition that can often
be prevented. Spreading the Go Red For Women message “Love
Your Heart” raises awareness of heart disease and empowers
women to reduce their risk. Your involvement
in the movement can help save the lives of our Salseras,
so dance, donate and help save lives!
