This year’s 2012 New York International Salsa Congress Dance Championship presented by Baila Society Online Dance Academy will be held on Thursday Night Only!

Rules and regulations can be found below so please read all the information so you are aware of what to do and not do. The entry fee after June 4 is $150 per couple, after July 30 will be $200 per couple. For those of you who like to wait until the last second after August 2, the rate goes to $300 per couple. Online sales end August 27. The entry fee includes your pass to get into the ballroom that night. Prize money will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. There is only 1 division, “Strictly On 2” this year. We will also still have the perpetual trophy for the “ON 2” division.

Money goes to:
1st place: $3,000
2nd place: $1,500
3rd place: $500

1 Division: “Strictly On 2” STRICLY “ON 2” DIVISION: This is a strictly dancing division which means NO tricks, lifts, or drops are allowed and of 1 foot must remain on the floor at all times. Only the “On 2” timing can be used and must be maintained consistently throughout the performance. Shines are permitted although not more than 30% of the performance may consist of shines or side by sides. Performances must consist of 70% Salsa dancing. No less than 2 minutes and no more than 3 minutes for the solo performance.

1. Competitors will be evaluated on:
a. Timing/Musicality
b. Visual Presentation/Stage Presence
c. Choreography
d. Technique

2. Competitors and attendees must have a weekend pass and are required to fill out a registration form and sign liability waiver compliance. If dancers of the partnership have a Full Pass VIP Package, then the registration fee is waived. If one person has a Full Pass VIP Package, then the other partner will only have to pay.

3. All competitors will receive a number to be which they will be responsible to keep through the duration of this particular competition except for the team division.

4. All competitors consent to release the use of their photographs, biographies, and names, for any video or television footage for sale.

5. All competitors will supply their own music on CD. Please have a back up CD for “just in case” and only one track of the performance on the CD.

6. The minimum/maximum time allowed for all solo competitors includes entrance and exit, with or without music. Solo routines should be no less than 2 minutes and no more than 3 minutes. And there will be an “All Skate” (dancing all together, free style) to music of the NYISC committee of choice for the On2 and Open Division.

7. If there are fewer than five couples/teams, the NYISC committee reserves the right to cancel.

8. The head judge and NYISC committee will have final say on all discrepancies. All questions and/or disputes should be brought to the attention of the head judge in writing (NYISC committee will supply a form for this purpose, if needed).

9. Absolutely no private filming, video cameras, photography and/or sales of videos/tapes will be allowed at any time without written permission of the NYISC organizers.

10. Registration is required in order to compete. (Includes a pass to get into the ballroom that night).

11. No casual or everyday clothing is allowed.

12. Attire shall be appropriate for the performance.

13. If less than 6 couples, the competition will be canceled and the contestants will be given back the registration fee.

14. Male lead and female follow.

15. While on the competition premises, competitors shall conduct themselves at all times in a civil and sportsman like manner.

16. It is the competitor’s responsibility to be in attendance at least half hour in advance of the advertised time scheduled for events he is entering. Organizers are not required to delay the program for the benefit of latecomers.
