The 2012 NYISC Salsa Survival Challenge at the 12th Annual New York International Salsa Congress is a program where the title says it all.
It’s designed primarily for the average Joe or Jane, meaning a typical spectator/Salsa Congress attendee. The challenge is can you, the average Joe or Jane along with others who signed up who you possible won’t know, learn a choreography from 2-3 hours in just 3 days with world renowned salsa instructor and choreographer and perform it LIVE as a featured team on stage in the early and late evening performance showcases on the last and most popular night which is Sunday? All Ages are welcomed.

Participants are required to bring a comfortable pair of blue jeans, a black shirt or blouse and a comfortable pair of black jeans and black dance shoes or sneakers (preferably shoes)to wear in the performance showcase on stage.

This program is set up to give you, either him or her a possible once in a lifetime experience and chance to solve their curious thoughts of would they be strong willed enough and/or have what it takes to survive performing what you learned on stage in front of a whole audience. Lastly this will definitely help you build your confidence on and off the dance floor because at the end of this you can say, “I Did It”. Just imagine, your audience will be over 5,000 people. That’s over 10,000 eyes watching every move you make. It takes a lot of guts...have any? So are you up for a CHALLENGE?

The challenge is can you, the average Joe or Jane along with others who signed up who you possible won’t know, learn a choreography from 2-3 hours in just 3 days with world renowned Bachata instructors and choreographers Ataca Jorgie and La Alemana of Island Touch, and perform it LIVE as a featured team on stage in the early and late evening performance showcases on the last and most popular night which is Sunday? All Ages are welcomed.

The 2012 NYISC DIVA Survival Challenge at 12th Annual New York International Salsa Congress is an intensive program and challenge designed primarily for the average Jane, meaning females only. The program curriculum is listed below. The challenge is can you, the Average Jane along with other females who signed up, accomplish all that’s in the curriculum, learn a choreography from 2-3 hours in just 3 days with world renowned salsa instructor/Diva extraordinaire and perform it LIVE as a featured team on stage in the early and late evening performance showcases on the last and most popular night which is Sunday? All ages are welcomed.

The curriculum includes:

Development: Developing your salsa dance skills by learning, listening and feeling the music with a focus on timing about music.

Improvement: Improving your basic steps, cross body leads, back steps, posture, hip and body movement, hand signals, arm, finger and shoulder styling, sensuality and other Latin associated dance disciplines.

Variations: Instruction in selected variations of turning, back spots, spinning, shifting your weight, etc...

Achievement: Achieving all of the above and being eligible to participate in a performance on stage as a featured dance group in our Sunday evening performance showcase.

The 2011 NYISC Salsa Meets Hip Hop Survival Challenge at the 12th Annual New York International Salsa Congress is a program where the title says it all. It’s designed primarily for the average Joe or Jane, meaning a typical spectator/Salsa Congress attendee. The challenge is can you, the average Joe or Jane along with others who signed up who you possible won’t know, learn a choreography from 2-3 hours in just 3 days with Hip Hop and Salsa Instructor to be determined and perform it LIVE as a featured team on stage in the early and late evening performance showcases on the last and most popular night which is Sunday. The way this differs from the Salsa Survival Challenge is you will be taught how to dance Salsa with a little Hip Hop FUNK!!! All Ages are welcome.

Participants are required to bring a comfortable pair of black jeans, black slacks or dress pants, a black shirt or blouse and black dance shoes or sneakers (preferably shoes)to wear in the performance showcase on stage.
